Junior Training And Coaching
A great way to be involved with your kids at Junior Surf is by being a coach or assisting the coaching team. The Junior squad is divided into groups which is based on child age and ability. Each group is assigned a coach for the season who will work in conjunction with the Junior Coordinator and be responsible for his/her team. Junior surf coaches are often parents of junior surf kids, and find their involvement very rewarding. No previous lifeguard experience is necessary, just a willingness to help out and get involved.
Our Junior surf coaches are trained to ensure they have the skills required applicable to the age group they are coaching. Some of the resources available are:
-
SafetyNet Introduction
-
Work Place Fist Aid course (1 day)
-
Club in-house ‘coach the coaches’ sessions run by experienced senior coaches
-
Coaching handbooks / DVD and materials
-
Support by senior coaches
If you would like to become a junior coach or just help out from time to time, we would love your help. Contact our Junior Coordinator to discuss how you can be part of Junior Surf.
Pool Swim Training
The Club has lanes hired at the Graham Condon pool in Papanui each Wednesday night, 7pm – 7:45pm for juniors (7:45 – 8:30pm for seniors). Normal pool entry fee at reception applies.
It is expected that all juniors are also enrolled in formal swim lessons or training squads.
Board Development Training
Board training is offered to junior members to improve their paddle board skills and is available to those who are qualified with their 200 meter safety award. Board training is split into two groups: development (beginners) and intermediate.
